Have questions? Here’s some handy info to help you get the most out of Share Location.

Q. Why is my friend or family offline?

They can go offline for several reasons. They should follow these steps to stay online:

  • They closed the Share Location app on their phone. Ask them to open the Share Location app to come back online.
  • They turned off their phone or they ran out of battery.
  • They have no, or poor internet connection.
  • They turned off Wi-Fi or Cellular.
  • They did not set their phone to ‘Always’ allow the app to use their location. ‘While in Use’ will not allow the app to keep their location up to date.
  • They turned off ‘Precise Location’.
  • They did not allow the app to use Cellular Data.
  • Their phone is in Airplane mode.
  • They enabled Low Power Mode.

Also, make sure they are on the latest version of the Share Location app to receive the latest bug fixes and improvements to our location technology.

Q. How do I improve location accuracy?

Make sure location services and WiFi are turned ON. Having the app open on your phone will also improve accuracy. Location accuracy will not be as high when the app is running in the background.

GPS is much less accurate (bad signal) when you’re inside a building so you could appear somewhere else instead of where you are. GPS is most accurate when you’re outside and moving about.

Also, make sure your friends and family follow the same steps above on their own phones to improve their location accuracy too.

Q. How do I improve battery life?

Set your phone to allow the app to use your Motion activity. Motion activity provides more reliable location while improving battery life.

Also, make sure you’re always on the latest version of the app to receive the latest bug fixes and improvements to our location technology.

Q. Is Share Location free?

Yes! You don’t have to pay to use Share Location. The app is free to use but with limited features. You can optionally subscribe to our monthly or yearly subscription to receive unlimited access to all features including 30 days of Location History, unlimited Place Alerts, and the option to share your real-time location Indefinitely, completely ad-free.

Q. Can I share my subscription with my family?

Yes! You and your family members can share and pay for one subscription if you’re all members of the same Family Sharing group.

After Family Sharing is set up, go into the app and tap “Restore Purchases“ from Settings. You will need to repeat this step for each family member.
